What is a barium mineral?

Geologically, barium is a dispersed element. The abundance in the earth is 23 ppm, the lower mantle is 1 ppm, the upper mantle is 76 ppm, and the crust is 390 ppm.

Barium from barite manufacturers is one of the more abundant trace elements in the upper part of the lithosphere. However, in igneous rocks, barium usually cannot form independent minerals, but is only dispersed in rock-forming minerals, mainly replacing potassium in feldspar and mica.

The properties of barium ions are similar to those of strontium, calcium, and potassium ions, but strontium is easily similar to calcium, and barium is similar to potassium. The ionic radius (134pm) and electronegativity (0.90) of B a2 + are close to those of K1 + (133pm) and electronegativity (0.80), so barium is often produced in potassium-rich minerals, such as potassium feldspar and biotite To form barium-containing potassium feldspar or barium-containing biotite. When the basic rock mass contains high barium, barium feldspar Ba [Al2Si2O8] and barium cryolite (K, Ba) [(Al, Si) Si2O8] can be seen. Generally, the later the magma crystallizes, the higher the degree of enrichment of barium. Therefore, in the late stage of magmatic crystallization, barium entered potassium feldspar and biotite. In the hydrothermal stage after the magmatic stage, barium is easily transferred to the hydrothermal fluid by fluorine-containing gas-water, forming fluorite-barite (BaSO4) veins or barite veins.

From ultrabasic rocks (1 ppm) to acid rocks (8.3 ppm), the abundance of barium increases. The content of barium in syenite and rough rock has increased sharply to 1800 ppm. The high content of barium in garnet can reach 4000ppm.

Hydrothermal stage can form independent minerals containing barium, such as barite, toxic barite (BaCO3), barium cryolite, barium beryllite, barium zeolite, etc.

Under epigenetic conditions, the barium carrier minerals of potassium barite, feldspar and biotite in Guizhou, decompose, and barium enters the water body, forming carbonate (toxicite), sulfate (barite) and chloride precipitation. Therefore, barium is often enriched in carbonate rocks (lime and dolomite) and anhydrite, but gypsum rocks generally have low barium content.
